Sophie Habecker is a post-bacculaureate artist in residence/ intern at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, specializing in sculpture and mixed media. Raised in Natick, Massachusetts by two architects, industrial spaces and materials are deeply rooted in their practice. Their work explores connection, communication, vulnerability, irrational thought, gravity, and the human form. They primarily use metals, wood, plaster, wax, and found objects, embracing the physicality of making through welding, grinding, and molding. Inspired by artists such as Senga Nengudi, Bruce Nauman, Alexander Calder, Jenny Holzer, Sean Landers, John Baldessari, Lawrence Weiner, and Jason Rhodes their practice ranges from abstract to conceptual to figurative. Collaboration and dialogue are central to their process. Their work invites visceral responses and personal interpretation, creating a conversation between artist, material, and viewer.
